Sri Lanka is blessed with various national parks and wildlife sanctuaries where one can watch the varied species of animals and birds, along with lush greenery and plenty of flora and fauna and add charm to your wildlife tours, Sri Lanka. Udawalawe national park is one of the best destinations to see wild elephants. Today, around 250 herds of Sri Lankan elephants dominate the place like their home. Relatively hard to see in its open habitat, these elephants freely roam the vicinity of the park, especially near the reservoir. A number of wild buffalos spotted deer, and giant squirrels also live peacefully inside the protected area. The park’s lack of dense vegetation in its vast landscape makes it an ideal spot to watch the wildlife go with their daily routines.
Description
Udawalawe’s main attraction is the large herd of Sri Lankan elephants that inhabit the area. Udawalawe is home to a few other species of mammal. Carnivores such as the rusty-spotted cat, the fishing cat, and the Sri Lankan Leopard are not unknown. During a visit, it is not unusual to see whole herds of adults and young elephants feeding or bathing and playing in the water. In addition to this main attraction, the park is home to many water buffalo, water monitors, lizards, sambar deer, monkeys, and the occasional leopard, as well as being an exciting location for bird enthusiasts. Udawalawe national park is a collection of several distinct, but interrelated geographical features. From lush forests to grasslands to man-made reservoirs, Udawalawe is among the largest national parks in Sri Lanka.
We organise and arrange your safari experience from Galle, Habaraduwa, and Mirissa at your convenience as a Morning Safari and an Afternoon safari.
Morning Safari: We will pick you up at 4.00 am from your hotel in Ella, Mirissa, Galle, Hikkaduwa, or Weligama and drop you off at your hotel down south (around Galle) or Ella.
Afternoon Safari: We will pick you up at 11.00 am from your hotel in Ella, Mirissa, and Galle, and you can get lunch on the way. So the safari will start before 1.30 pm and early drop-off at your hotel down south or in Ella.

Safari Tour with great guide
We did the Safari Tour with Dilan with pickup in Ella and transfer to Mirissa. We’ve been in touch with Dilan a couple of days before the tour and he was very helpful with information. Everything was perfectly organized and the Safari was a great experience. Totally recommend!

Great elephant safari from Ella!
Dylan organized a great Udawalawe National Park safari from Ella with a transfer to Colombo after for me and my wife. It was a comfortable ride with him and the driver. We stopped for a great local lunch on the way. Dylan and our driver were both great at spotting animals at the park and we saw many elephants! Dylan himself was pleasant to chat with and respectful. He was very responsive via WhatsApp and communicative. I’d recommend a tour in Ella with him to anyone looking.

Fantastic tour the driver & guide were really knowledgeable. Everything was provided, would definitely book again.
Our daughter had an upset tummy and the guide went above & beyond by getting her some local medicine and fruits. He would not take anything for them, but they definitely helped our daughter’s recovery. We were so grateful to him. You need to book this tour

Great safari in Udawalawe with convenient transfer to Ella

We contacted Dylan approx. 3 weeks in advance to organize a safari in Yala with a transfer from Matara to Ella. One week before we finally decided for a safari in Udawalawe and Dylan had no issues rearranging the plan.
We opted for the afternoon safari. The driver showed up on time at 11:00 at our hotel in Matara, we were taken to Udawalawe where we met Dylan. He arranged our lunch in a restaurant close to the park entrance. He joined us for the safari and he was very knowledgeable and provided information regarding the animals and plants we were seeing. We spotted many animals (including elephants, crocodiles, buffalos, monkeys, deers and a wide variety of birds).
After the safari we went back to the car and were comfortably driven to Ella.
We would recommend going for a private safari since it really allows you take your time to enjoy both the animals and the wonderful views of the park.
As en extra tip bring your raincoat since the weather can change quickly. It was rainy at times during our safari, not a real issue since it made the experience even more fascinating.
We definitely recommend this tour for the good organization, the great time we had during the safari and new things we learnt thanks to Dylan.

AMAZING TOURS WITH BEST TOUR GUIDE!!
We had the most amazing tour with Dilan last year! We booked 2 tours with him – one for an elephant safari at the Udawalawe national park, and then the next day for a waterfall hike. He was so knowledgable, and so accommodating to tailor the tours to what we were interested in seeing more of. He also surprised us with a 2nd secret, hidden waterfall and pulled out packed lunches his mother had made for us 🙂 It was a very special few days we spent with Dilan understanding more about the Sri Lankan culture and history, and the beauty of the country.
